Financial planning services – questions and answers
How are you compensated?
It's a question we believe everyone should be asking their financial advisor. Birchwood is a fee only independent financial planning and investment management firm.We base those fees on the amount of assets we’re managing for a client. Fees are paid directly from the client’s accounts to Birchwood Financial Partners on a quarterly basis. A fee is generally charged on an initial financial plan. Birchwood is a fiduciary, which means by law we have to put our client's interests ahead of our own. We are paid directly by our clients, and we do not receive commissions from their investment portfolios.
How should I judge your performance?
We believe that should you judge performance based on how well you are tracking toward attaining your goals. To measure that well usually requires that both your Birchwood advisor and you are taking the actions we’ve modeled and planned together.
What should I expect to delegate to you? What can I expect you to take care of for me?
The amount that you delegate to us is determined largely by you—some of our clients want us to manage as much as possible, while others like to stay actively involved in their plan.
Is there a minimum asset balance you work with?
Generally, our minimum asset management balance is $1,000,000, but we do make exceptions.
Where will my assets be held?
We custody assets with Charles Schwab Institutional.
What are your credentials?
All of our financial planners are CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERS™ (CFP®).
Our investment manager is a Chartered Financial Analyst Program charterholder.
What should I bring to my first meeting with you?
You don’t have to bring anything, but if you want to bring information with you, here’s what we recommend:
- Questionnaire about experiences you’ve had.
- Any additional information that you feel will be helpful for us to get to know you.
If you have any other questions contact us.
